NikWax reckons it can help this summer, whether you are living in rainy Scotland or sunny “the rest of the UK”. Of course, in reality, the whole of Britain will be facing the usual fickle summer weather so there will be outdoor days when you need to stay dry in the rain and other days when you will want to stay sweat-free in the sunshine.
How to stay dry in the rain
NikWax is a familiar brand for re-waterproofing outdoor clothing items, such as waterproofs. The product that I have used the most is NikWax TX Direct wash in. Simply place your used or dirty waterproof jacket or trousers in a washing machine, add some NikWax solution and turn on the machine. When the items dry, like magic, they become super water repellent again.
You can tell that they are water repellent because the rain beads and rolls off, just like when you buy a new waterproof jacket that has a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating.
I like this video for explaining how NikWax produts work.

Another side to the NikWax range are the BaseWash and BaseFresh cleaning products. Think of these products like “super” cleaning. Most people who do outdoor activities, such as walking, running and cycling, will know the benefits of a sweat-wickable baselayer or synthetic item, such as a cycling jersey or running t-shirt. No doubt, you will also be familiar with the whiff of sweat from these clothes.
Sometimes it seems like it is impossible to get rid of the smell of sweat, even when they have been washed in the washing machine. NikWax make BaseWash and BaseFresh to be used in the washing machine.
BaseWash is used instead of your usual washing detergent. It cleans, deodorises, inhibits the build up of body odours, accelerates drying and improves the cooling efficiency of synthetic baselayers.
BaseFresh goes into the the conditioner area of your washing machine and can be used in conjunction with your ordinary washing detergent. This is useful if you want to wash sporty synthetics with non-sporty clothes. BaseFresh also inhibits the build-up of body odours, accelerates drying and improves cooling efficiency of abase layers.
