It won’t surprise you to know that I have been in need of warm socks this summer. There have been times in this #summerofwinter2015 when it has been so cold, even indoors, that I have found myself hunting out winter-warming baselayers, fleeces and thick socks.
So, I’ve had a good opportunity to test the Heat Holders thermal socks.
Heat Holders make bold claims: “Heat Holders are the warmest socks ever.” They claim to be seven times warmer than regular cotton socks and three times warmer than ordinary thermal socks. Heat Holders also have a tog rating of up to 2.34.
They are made in a three-stage process:
- They use a cashmere mix thermal yarn that is great at insulating and soft on the skin.
- Knitted with an extra long loop to help trap warm air.
- Intense brushing process to increase the amount of warm air that can be kept close to the skin.

Endorsed by five-time winter Olympian and Ski Sunday host, Graham Bell, the Heat Holders ski socks have a tog rating of 2.3.
When I pulled on the socks to my bare skin they felt super luxuriously soft and cosy. The inside fleece is thick and is immediately warming.
I’ve worn the socks several times and washed them and they still feel just as thick and fleecy when I put them on.
Once my feet get cold there is usually very little I can do to warm them up apart from apply a hot water bottle or have a warm bath. So it was great to feel how the Heat Holders actually warmed up my cold feet.
My feet never became too hot and sweaty, but stayed at a lovely cosy-warm temperature.
If you were to wear the socks in your ordinary ski boots you might find them a bit tight to start with because they are so generously fleecy but I imagine they would bed in enough to give you warm feet all day on the slopes. The thickness of the socks is so soft and compressible.
The Heat Holders are a great colour too. I have the fuchsia and indigo colour but there are six other bright and funky colours in the ladies range as well as more in the men’s range. The cost £8.99
Heat Holders also do non-ski socks, underwear, hats, gloves, tights and leggings. I think I’ve found the all-over-body solution to a Scottish winter!
