New Proviz softshell cycling jersey

I have been testing the new Proviz softshell cycling jersey in a women’s fit size UK10. I would wear this fleece-lined jacket for both cold weather running and cycling. It features the impressive Proviz PixElite material. This is a reflective yarn that is intertwined into performance fabrics to offer high reflectivity in the dark.

The remainder of the material that makesup the jacket is a tri-layered blend of back-brushed thermal microfibre, elastane and polyester to give a breathable and flexible fit.

See this video for more details:

Other features include:

  • Chest and rear lock-zipped pockets help to keep valuables secure
  • Three open back pockets
  • A two-inch elastic cuff to keep out the wind, rain and sleet.
  • A non slip silicone hem to stop the jacket riding up when on the bike
  • A zip garage to ensure there is no nasty neck or chin chafing when the jacket is fully zipped up.

The fit is fantastic. I have the UK10 and it is neat fitting yet not overly so. The arm and torso length are good even for someone who is taller than average.

The fleece-backed fabric feels lovely to wear. I wore it over a thin long-sleeve baselayer for a short run. I have also worn it on top of a couple of baselayers for a bike ride into the city.

To look at in the light the jacket is a mix of softer-feel black fabric and areas of thicker and stiffer mottled grey/sliver. These grey/silver areas are on the arms, lower back, sides shoulders and collar.

But when a light is shone on the grey/silver areas they shine super brightly and sparkly. It’s like magic.

The reflective qualities are superb and this jacket is a great idea. If you do not want a waterproof jacket and you are looking for a product that is more flexible in terms of the activities you might wear it for this is a great buy.

The fabric is breathable but not waterproof. It keeps out a fair amount of wind although I have had more windproof softshell.

Also, the reflective fabric does rustle a bit and it’s quite stuff but the advantages of the high visibility far outweigh the disadvantages. It’s quite pricey, too, for a softshell cycling jacket but it is surely worth it to be seen on dark roads.

I have not been more impressed with a hi-viz product for years. I have always thought that all outdoor sports items should be created with fabric that has some reflective design through it and Proviz have hit the nail on the head.

Proviz softshell women’s cycling jersey costs £119.99.
