Challenge Arrochar is a fund-raising event for Beatson Cancer Charity that takes place in one of my favourite local hill walking locations. On Saturday June 18, Challenge Arrochar offers walkers the opportunity to take on one of three challenges:

3 Peak Challenge

Walk to Ben Narnain, Ben Ime and The Cobbler (Ben Arthur) over 11 miles and including a total of 6,250ft gained. This amounts to 40% more height gain than walking Ben Nevis.

2 Peak Challenge

Walk to the top of Ben Narnain and The Cobbler. This route is eight miles of walking with a total of 4,330ft gained. It’s still a great achievement to walk a Munro and a Corbett in one day.

1 Peak Challenge

The Cobbler is a fantastic mountain to summit and is ideal for those that are new to hillwalking. It’s still a big day out, however, and extends to seven miles and just more than 3000ft of total ascent.

Why take part in Challenge Arrochar?

Challenge Arrochar is a great day out for all kinds of wakers but don’t just take the event organiser’s word for it. This is what Jane Blake, who participated in last year’s event, said: “You are challenging yourself so you get a real sense of achievement and feel-good factor by taking part.

“You meet so many lovely people, the atmosphere is fantastic and, of course, raising money for the charity is such a great thing to be part of.”

Registration is £35 and each walker must commit to a minimum sponsorship target for Beatson Cancer Charity of £150.

Walkers set off at 8am on June 18 from Arrochar village.

Money raised from Challenge Arrochar will make a vital difference to the care provided to The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, the UK’s busiest cancer centre, as well as patients and their families.

See Challenge Arrochar. Register at: [email protected] or by calling 0141 212 0505.
