The annual Push the Boat Out programme takes place from May 14 to 22, 2016, and promises lots of free and low coast watersports sessions across Scotland.

There are more participating venues taking part in the campaign than ever before and double the number across the UK compared to 2015.

The Push the Boat Out initiative is supported by the Royal Yacht Association (RYA).

From Oban to Montrose and Banff to the Borders, the nationwide have-a-go campaign gives Scottish first-timers the chance to try sports such as dinghy sailing, windsurfing, keelboat sailing and kayaking.

Liza Linton, development manager for RYA Scotland, says: “Push the Boat Out is great opportunity for people to try our sports and hopefully we shall be able to turn some of the first-timers into lifelong participants.”

Ken Killham, from Nairn Sailing Club and Nairn Kayak Club, which has recently built a combined water-sports facility at Nairn Harbour, says: “After last year’s success and fun, we are pleased to host another Push the Boat Out event and welcome members of our local community so they can try their hand at sailing on the beautiful Moray Firth.”

In the Borders, Whiteadder Watersports Centre principal Gordon Smith says: “We’ve signed up to Push the Boat Out this year to give people an opportunity to try something new and to let them see a little of what sailing involves. We want to enthuse young people to take up a new sport.”

More than 65,000 people have discovered the sport through Push the Boat Out since its launch in 2012. Nationally, 2015 Push the Boat Out saw almost 28,500 newcomers attend events across the UK.
