Film-makers of all ages are invited to submit outdoor-themed films into the 2017 Outdoor Shorts competition as part of the 2017 Peebles Outdoor Film Festival.

The films must be outdoor-themed, either documentary or fictional work, of no more than five minutes duration and demonstrate creativity, originality and story-telling skill.

Films can detail a particular adventure, journey, sport, personal experience, or be a portrait of a particular person or place. All must capture the magic and natural beauty of being outdoors.

The competition is split into two categories: Under 18s and open. Prizes will be awarded in each category.

Winners of the 2017 Outdoor Shorts competition will be chosen by a panel of expert judges and by public vote during the festival (January 27 to 29) when a viewing facility will be set up for festival-goers to watch all short-listed films.

Short-listed entrants will be invited to attend the final short film session of the festival on the evening of the 29th when the prize winners will be announced and their films shown on the big screen at the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles. The deadline for submission is noon January 9, 2017.

Rich Rowe, of Peebles Outdoor Film Festival, said:“Our 2016 Outdoor Shorts competition saw a wonderful range of films from far and wide, with the judges extremely impressed by the quality of the work submitted.

“As the competition grows in stature, we anticipate another rich and varied selection of submissions for the 2017 festival.”

Last year, A Year in the Life of Stramash won the judge’s prize, while the wonderfully inventive short film Extreme Tennis: Anywhere, Anyway won the public vote during the course of the festival.

Organised by the Eastgate Theatre, and now in its third year, the Peebles Outdoor Film Festival features three days of speakers, adventure films, hands-on sessions and a mini exhibition featuring local activity companies and outdoor gear manufacturers. The full programme for the 2017 festival will be launched at the end of October.

An entry form and full guidelines for entrants to the 2017 Outdoor Shorts competition can be found in the news section at www.eastgatearts.com, or call the box office on 01721 725777.
