  • Protective rubber heel and toe cap
  • Mud guard protective material around the base of the shoe
  • Non-marking Contagrip® soles for optimal traction on varied surfaces
  • Female-specific last
  • Heel strap
  • Heel foam
  • 1120g per pair

I tested the women’s boot. I would class this boot as middle-of-the-range walking boot. It is suitable for most kinds of summer hiking in Scotland and for easier going routes in winter. It’s not the type of boot that I would wear for serious winter walking days or very snowy hikes.

It’s a boot that has mid-stiffness and generally good grip. It suits mud, trails, rough ground and hills but it’s not ideal for wet rock, ice, steep scree slopes and crampon use.

The boots are comfortable as soon as I put them on. I like Salomon boots as a rule and these do not disappoint. I think the width of the boot has widened over the years and while some people might like this I find it creates too much forefoot volume for my narrow feet.

I can wear a UK8, while in other boots I need a UK8.5 so I would say these boots have a generous fit.

They boots lace up easily and securely and stay tightened.

A very muddy walk.

A very muddy walk.

They are comfortable to walk in, too. I felt no rubs or annoyances from the moment I set out in them. They feel quite cushioned underfoot and not too bulky.

I walked a wet, muddy and slippery hill route. I felt stable even on muddy slopes. My feet remained warm and dry throughout the walk, despite kicking through mud and puddles.

The boot are perfect for autumn and early winter walks. They suit higher level summer hikes in Scottish mountains too.
