I have no idea why I had not been to Doon Hill, “the home of the fairies”, near Aberfoyle, in the Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park before. I know I have walked, mountain biked and run in that area of the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park many times and I had heard about Fairy Knowe but for some reason I had not visited it.
Yesterday, that changed when I discovered the magic of the fairy hill during a trail run amid the stunning autumnal Trossachs scenery. Doon Hill is a charming place to visit and offers a short and easy going walk from Aberfoyle, or nearby.

A tree of fairy wishes. Many people leave messages and wishes for the fairies to work their charms on.

Loving the mod-cons of the 4×4 Vauxhall MOKKA X, including Apple Play, remote unlock, destination download, heated seats and, brilliantly, a heated steering wheel!
Where to drive off-road in Scotland
There are some great Scottish forest drives for 4x4s. Many shut for the winter at the end of October but they are worth storing in your memory bank for next year. The views are superb.
- Three Lochs Drive, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park
- Carrick Forest Drive, south Ayrshire
- Leacainn Muir Forest Drive, Loch Fyne
- Raiders Road Forest Drive, Galloway.
- I was loaned the Vauxhall MOKKA X for some adventuring fun. It is a fun car that is easy to drive, including roads and off-road, and has lots of great mod-cons.
