A new FoxTrail winter running series of 5k events launches this year.

Based at Foxlake Adventures wakeboarding park in Dunbar, East Lothian, the 5k trail running series 2016/17 starts with the first race on November 5.

Then next race is January 21 and finally the third race is on March 4.

The series is aimed at people who are new to running or trail running and looking for an exciting off-road challenge in the countryside.

The 5ks, which are a more adventurous alternative to road running are safe, marshaled and will take place on marked courses around Foxlake.

Runners are being encouraged to take part in all three races, with a view of beating personal best results each time.

You could also be in with a chance of winning a bespoke FoxTrail medal and great prizes from event sponsors Nathan, Feetures and Complete Movement.

James Barbour, Director at Foxlake, said: “Our new 5k runs are the perfect introduction to trail running for people of all abilities.

“Running off-road through woods, mud and water is an entirely different experience to road or park running. it is challenging, fun and a great way to explore the countryside.”

Six race winter running series

The 5k running events for newcomers are in addition to a six-race FoxTrail line up for the full 2016/17 FoxTrail Running Series, which is now in its fourth year and attracts more than 1000 runners annually.

There are six other established races including two 13k trail runs, two 10k runs (one at night), a 16k run and a half marathon.

John Whittaker, FoxTrail Winter Running Series Race Director, said: “Trail running not only helps build core strength, a stronger and more efficient running style and the opportunity to really test the flexibility in your legs and lungs, but is also great for the mindset and usually gets people hooked after the first run.”

Enter the FoxTrail 5k races at EntryCentral.com. £8 each. A discount applies for entering all three races, from £17.50, and a full series discount will apply for entering all six races. Check out FoxTrail Scotland for further details.
