I wrote about the Supermoon appearing in the skies of Scotland last week. I love this kind of thing. I also enjoy walking at night. My friend Ellen had suggested she enjoyed night walking, too, so we hatched a plan.
We decided we would walk the Greenock Cut (a place where we have enjoyed many chatty walks in the daytime).
We decided we would set off once she had finished work and as many of her evening mothering duties as possible and once her husband got in from work.
We decided we would walk whatever the weather, although I know we were both very disappointed on the day to see it was cloudy and likely to be wet.
However, we decided we would both benefit from the fresh air and we always have great chats as we walk so we decided to wear/take the right clothing and simply walk.
The Supermoon has not been seen in our skies since 1948 and will not appear again until 2034. The Supermoon is brighter and bigger than the average moon.
However, the skies over the Glasgow area were cloudy yesterday and we doubted very much that we would see the Supermoon.

But you can never tell what will happen in the night sky and as we walked and talked we suddenly spotted the bright moon in a clearing of the clouds. It dipped back behind clouds but then it was revealed again.
A long-ish clearing in the clouds allowed us to take photos and generally ooh and ahh over the moon’s brilliance. I confess I was more than a little excited.

We were afforded about 20 minutes of in-out cloud Supermoon sightings before the rain clouds collected above us and we walked the last third or so of the walk in rain, which grew heavier the longer we walked.
Our photos do not do the Supermoon justice, but I will have the memory of the night sky in my head for a very long time. It was an impressive sight and we felt smug to have made the effort to go out for night walk despite knowing we might not spot the moon.
