A new Edinburgh IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon has been announced for next summer. It takes place on July 2, 2017. While general entries open on Monday December 19, 2016, Scottish Triathlon members can enter now.
As a Triathlon Scotland member you gain priority registration from now until until Monday.
Kevin Stewart, regional director of Northern Europe for IRONMAN, said. “We are excited to be expanding to Scotland for the first time. We now offer events in Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales, giving thousands of athletes the opportunity to cross an IRONMAN finish line in the UK and Ireland.”
Some 2,000 athletes are expected to take part in the inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Edinburgh. It will start at historic Gosford House and feature a 1.2-mile (1.9km) sea swim from Gosford Sands on the Firth of Forth.
A 56-mile (90.1km), one-loop bike ride takes place on closed roads through the rolling countryside of East Lothian, Midlothian and the outskirts of the city centre and Dalkeith country park.
The athletes will then arrive in the transition area at Arthur’s Seat, in Holyrood Park. The multi lap 13.1-mile (21.2km) run is staged within Holyrood Park before crossing the finish line.
Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland’s Director of Events, said: “EventScotland is delighted to welcome IRONMAN to Scotland for the first time in 2017.
“Taking place amidst some of the scenic natural landscape Scotland has to offer, we expect the Edinburgh stage to be incredibly well supported as enthusiasts look to pit themselves against the IRONMAN 70.3 course.
“We look forward to welcoming thousands of competitors and spectators next summer for this historic occasion.”
