A new entry-level triathlon launches in Dunoon, on the Cowal Peninsula, this May.
With rising numbers of people keen to give triathlon a go, the Dunoon Triathlon on May 20, 2017, is likely to be a popular race.
Dunoon Presents has joined forced with No Fuss Events to stage the Dunoon Triathlon, based at Dunoon Pier, and to encourage participation of people of all fitness levels and ability.
The triathlon comprises:
- 400m pool swim (16 lengths)
- 22km road cycle (fairly flat)
- 6km run or walk (also fairly flat).
Participants can enter as individuals or three-person teams with a different athlete doing each stage.
Another bonus of this triathlon is that the first transition, between the swim and bike sections, will not be timed so participants can enjoy a less competitive swap between the sports.
Transition 2 between the cycle and run will be timed, which means newbie triathletes can get a feel for what it’s like to have a more competitive transition. (Remember, in triathlon, minutes spent in transition are added to the overall time so you want to be as fast as possible.)
As well an enjoying a friendly triathlon, participants will love the stunning scenery of the coastal town of Dunoon and the surrounding countryside. Both the cycle and run head along the coast with superb views.
A spokesperson for the event said: “The Dunoon Triathlon is designed to encourage a ‘have a go’ philosophy and we hope participation will be made up of all ages and fitness levels.
“This is a very doable triathlon that is aimed at beginners and those who are looking for something to keep themselves motivated and fit.
“We want as many people as possible to experience the wonderful world of triathlon and to make the event fun and rewarding for all competitors.”
Entry costs are:
- Solo £25
- Team £21 per entry.
