Digital mapping company ViewRanger has teamed up with outdoor gear giant Berghaus to launch a free hiking event this month. The aim is to encourage more people to explore the great outdoors on the August Bank Holiday weekend.
The Trail Takeover is a series of three hiking routes in Central Scotland, the Cotswolds and the Peak District on Saturday August 26, with Berghaus offering prizes for participants, including £100 gift cards and an outdoor activity holiday worth £2,000.
To sign up to the Trail Takeover go to the Berghaus website, select their preferred location, then download the ViewRanger app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
On Thursday August 24, Berghaus will send everyone taking part a free route guide to download in the ViewRanger app. The Trail Takeover will begin at 10am on Saturday August 26 and everyone who completes their trail will be in with a chance of winning the £2,000 holiday.
In addition, there will be gift cards worth up to £100 hidden in the hills along each route, plus other surprises and experiences for participants to discover.
Richard Leedham, Berghaus brand president, said: “We’re really excited about the potential of The Trail Takeover. The Bank Holiday weekend is a perfect opportunity for people to spend time outdoors with their family and friends and we’ve come up with a really accessible way to do that.
“Partnering with ViewRanger is a great way to help the public use the latest technology to explore some beautiful locations, and our team will be out along the trails to make sure that everyone has a memorable time. As well as existing enthusiasts, we hope to introduce a lot of new faces to the outdoors on the day, who will be inspired to return again and again.”
