More running and plotting on the Maps for Trail Runners Project

I am part of a Map Makers team that has been created for a Maps For Trail Runners Project. The initiative is the brainchild of TrailFest Scotland in partnership with Harvey Maps.

The aim is to create a series of new maps that will be ideal for trail runners.

So far, we have looked at current maps – mostly aimed at walkers – to see what is useful and what is not so useful for trail runners. We have also put forward ideas for what we would like to see included in the new trail runner maps.

The new maps will include all of the information required for safe and efficient route selection and will be the most runner-friendly maps on the UK market.

Yesterday, the Map Makers headed to the Carron Valley to run with the first prototype of the new Harvey Trail Runner maps. It was a great outing with unexpectedly deep snow on the trails, good chat and company, plus some interesting finds and tips for making the prototype even better.

Many thanks to Owain for allowing me to use many of his great photos, as well as a few of my more “staged” pics!

I am delighted to be part of this excellent initiative. #makingmaps #mapsfortrailrunners
