Great idea: Collect & Scratch Maps for outdoors fans

Maps International have launched a series of Collect & Scratch maps for walkers and cyclists. The maps include, Wainwrights, Munros, Alpine Climbs, UK cycling climbs and Alpine cycling ascents. I love these!

A few of the Collect & Scratch maps.

(They already sell the popular Scratch world maps.)

Years ago, I had a paper map that allowed me to tick off Munros as I climbed them. Then, I started using the easily accessible Walk Highlands digital map. It is very satisfying to see the red “not summitted” mountains turn to blue.

But the Scratch print maps by Maps International is a whole new concept. Well, scratch-off panels are obviously not new. Most of us are familiar with scratch cards, for example Lottery tickets.  But I have never seen a Munro scratch map before.

I have enjoyed spending time – quite a lot of time, actually – scratching off all the Munros I have walked so far. It’s 240 of the 282.

The map also allows you to scratch off an area of Munros in a chart, so you can see when you have completed a group of summits.

Munro collections.

There is a handy number line at the foot of the map where you scratch off the number of Munros walked.

I have created quite a pile of scratched off scrapings!

Here is my planned last Munro… it will be the last one to scratch off.

The Munro Bagging Map that I have is printed on silk art paper, priced £16.
The maps can also be framed on a pinboard mount for £110 with a choice of black or white frames.

It is possible to personalise the maps (except the Munros and Wainwrights) with phrases, or your own message.

Other Collect & Scratch Maps

There are four more Scratch Off maps:

The Wainwrights: The 214 hills in the Lake District, England.

The Alpine Climbs: 265 major peaks that are more than 3000m in the Alps.

UK Cycle Climbs Map features a selection of 75 hill climbs ideal for cycling in the UK.

Alpine Cycle Climbs Map shows a total of 122 cycling climbs in the Alps, across four countries, with the location of familiar cols (Alpine passes) to conquer.

These would make great gifts. See: For a full list of the Collect & Scratch maps.

Win a Scratch Map of the Wainwrights

The Wainwrights map.

I have a silk art paper Wainwrights Collect & Scratch map to give away. If you would like the chance to win it, please tell me your favourite UK hill summit – and why – in less than 12 words. Post you answer on Facebook or twitter with the #scratchmapwainwrights and make sure you tag me in. The closing date is October 26, 2018, at 10am.
