Glen Tilt is one of the Scotland’s most beautiful glens and relatively accessible thanks to a well-located car park near the Perthshire village of Blair Atholl.
I enjoyed a longer walk to the Corbett Beinn Mheadhonach, however, for a shorter walk, this suggested route forms a shorter circuit of six miles.
Leave the Glen Tilt car park and follow yellow markers to start with. The path hugs the west bank of the picturesque River Tilt, a tributary of the River Garry. The trail is a delight and undulates via a fabulous wooded gorge with the rushing River Tilt often in sight.
At a major junction take the right fork to reach Cumhann-leum Bridge over the river. The route then hugs the eastern bank to Gilberts Bridge. (Note: Gilberts bridge has no apostrophe on maps.)
Retrace your steps south a little way and look for a waymarker pointing into woods. The route climbs to then follow flatter terrain higher up the valley. The views are wonderful. The path eventually reaches a road to head through the tiny settlement of Old Bridge of Tilt and back to the car park.
Start/finish: Glen Tilt car park, near Blair Atholl. It is important to note that the path on Atholl Estates can sometimes be closed for rifle shooting. It will be clear when this is taking place or take a look on-line for info.
