Review: Eagle Creek Wayfinder Crossbody travel bag

My guest reviewer Seth has been testing the Eagle Creek Wayfinder Crossbody travel bag. He writes: I like to focus on having fewer, high quality items, rather than many mediocre accessories. Because of their reputation in quality construction and adaptive use, I was pleased to try out Eagle Creek’s smaller travel bag, the Wayfinder Crossbody. I previously had another crossbody that I used for years and years although I retired a a short while ago. It was time to try something new and I am pleased with how it is performing.

In addition, the bag ticks some green credentials. The company has a sustainable approach to sourcing PVC-free materials, using bluesign approved fabrics, recycled materials harvested from landfills, and minimising waste to lighten the footprint and preserve the planet

Features include:

  • Fleece-lined electronics compartment
  • Secure zip toggles and a Central Lock Point
  • Hidden zip pocket on back panel
  • Main compartment organiser
  • Adjustable shoulder strap
  • Stretch mesh water bottle pocket
  • Top grab handle
  • VOLUME: 8L
  • WEIGHT: 0.37 kg
  • MEASURES: 32.5 x 23.5 x 10 cm

What’s good about Eagle Creek Wayfinder crossbody

After using the Wayfinder Crossbody quite a bit, I have found that these are the features that I really like.

Weather resistance: It holds up well when walking in the rain around the city.

Size: At a nice medium size, the bag itself is not heavy or cumbersome. The interior space is sufficient for holding a good amount. I have even used it as a purse/nappy bag, fitting nappies and wet wipes in the pocket that is made for electronics.

Electronics: This fits my iPad nicely along with other study books for when I am out working, or even will have extra time while waiting.

Travel: This bag is a great option for a personal items/handluggage for airline travel.

Extras:

  • I use the top grab handle constantly for hanging it up while I am at home.
  • The zipper pulls are really nice, and it is helpful to have the options of the hidden pocket in the back and also the locking zipper for security when traveling.

What’s not so good about Eagle Creek Wayfinder Crossbody

This is a really great bag, but it may not be for everyone. For example, I am 5’ 9” and have the strap extended all of the way.

If you are taller than me and you like to wear bags further down, you may find the strap too short.

Also, I like to carry around a waterbottle, but I find that if I have my 500 ml bottle in the mesh pocket, it makes the bag ride at an awkward angle.

Also, my personal preference is to carry the bag on my right hip, and so the mesh waterbottle pocket would feel more comfortable on the other end.

This would be inadequate for someone needing a gym or overnight bag.

Alternatively, if you only carry your phone and wallet, and a pen or two, it probably would seem bulky.

Conclusion

This is a great bag for around town and I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it was while walking around the city. I would recommend it to people who travel, or who just walk a lot and want to be able to carry the necessities.
