On test: CimAlp Storm waterproof trail running jacket
The jacket (size small, I am a UK10) fits well in the torso. It is slim fit, which suits my frame. However, the length of the jacket to the hem and also the arms could be a bit more generous. I am quite tall and I have long arms but I hope CimAlp might take note of this and add a little extra length. Also, the shoulder width is a little neat for me. I suggest you go up a size if in doubt.
For this reason, the thumb loops were not useful to me. My arms are too long to make them comfortable, although I think this is a useful feature if the arms fit you.
The jacket looks good and I really like the colour. I have the red, rather than the black jacket. The hood is also a great feature and I like that the jacket packs into its own chest pocket. This is useful for stowing the jacket in your pack when not in use.
The jacket feels lightweight and it is waterproof with great windproofing as well. I have used it for several different runs and it is best used in cold, wet weather.
I do find that I sweat a bit in the jacket. There is a fine balance with running jackets between them being more waterproof and less breathable or more breathable and less waterproof. This is because the more waterproof a jacket is the less likely it is on average to let out the water vapour of sweat.
I find that when I warm up, or I am running in warmer, wetter conditions, the jacket does not allow all sweat vapour to escape and so the inside of the jacket becomes a bit damp. This is not unusual with running jackets, although some are better than others.
I would reserve this jacket for winter running when you need more warmth and protection from the wind and rain.
Another good point about the jacket is that it doesn’t rustle to noisily when you run. The noise of a jacket fabric that rustles in the wind can be really annoying over a pro-longed period.
I also like the reflective details.
I very rarely run while listen in to music, but if you do there is a useful passage for the lead of your headphones if you do not have bluetooth.
The original price of the jacket seemed high but it is now discounted by £50 to take it to just over £90, which is a more normal cost for a good quality running jacket.
