Running or walking route: Antonine Trail from Twechar

Written by Fiona

February 08 2021

This figure-of-eight route visits sections of the Antonine Trail (which is also part of the coast-to-coast route, the John Muir Way).

Start/finish: Twechar, East Dunbartonshire

Distance: 12k

Total ascent: 400m

Route: OS Map

The route follows sections of:

  • The Antonine Trail follows the route of the ancient wall built by the Romans. It travels from the River Clyde to the River Forth.
  • The John Muir Way journeys from Helensburgh to Dunbar across Scotland.

The trail is suitable for walking and running. It follows paths, tracks and tarmac and can be done in two loops or as a figure of eight. There are plenty of short and steep hills.

You’ll visit many points of interest connected to the Antonine Wall, as well as Auchinstarry Marina.

Here is the route in photos:

  • If you enjoy reading my website and/or following the routes, you might like to consider a small donation. Thanks.
