This is not my first massage gun, so I already know how useful these products can be, especially as a runner. While I do seek the professional support of a sports massage therapist, I don’t have the time or money to book daily sessions. A massage gun allows me to work tight muscles and knots as they crop up and I also use it to maintain a regular programme of self-therapy.

My thoughts: Bob and Brad Q2 Mini Massage Gun
Although not quite pocket sized, unless you have large pockets, the massage gun is small and neat. It is smaller and lighter than my previous massage gun, which makes it easier to use.
I have only used the gun on the lowest speed setting and I find that powerful enough to massage my muscles.
I’ve had a niggling hip tightness in my glute and hamstring. Regular massage with the gun is proving helpful.
The different heads are really useful to. I’ve found the round head the most useful for general massage of larger muscles, such as the quads. The pointer head is brilliant for getting into tight knots. There is another head that has two small prongs and that is great for calf muscles.
I have been really surprised by how this smaller version of the massage gun still provides the power to work tired and tight muscles.
Also because the gun is smaller it is really easy to hold in one hand and apply enough pressure to give a good massage.
Two friends have tried the massage gun and both say it’s really good.
I have had the gun for about a month and found it easy to use and charge. I like that I can use one of the USB type C charging cables that I already own. (The gun came with a cable but you know how these things disappear!)
One full charge lasts for many days of use, although of course it depends on how many minutes you massage for and the setting. Presumably, the more powerful the setting the more it will drain the battery.
I use post-exercise, as well as when I feel a sudden muscle niggle and also sometimes pre-run as a warm up for muscles.
It is easy to take the gun with me when I go away, for example on a ski holiday. The case is about half the size of my last massage gun.
I can’t tell you if the massage gun has a good lifespan but so far it has worked really well.
One thing to note is that the vibrations can make your hand go fuzzy and I have been told this isn’t great if you suffer with poor circulation such as with Raynaud’s Syndrome. I swap hands every few minutes and try not to use if for too long each time.
The massage gun will not replace my appointments with a massage therapist but I have found it a great aid for regular maintenance of muscles.
- I was sent the massage gun to test in exchange for an independent and honest review.
