As most people who follow my website will know, I am a big fan of the Flanci skort. Now the company has launched their version of a dry robe, the Flanci Huggle Robe.
The robe can be ordered in more than 20 of the Flanci designs, so you can choose your colours and look. They are all brilliantly bright! I went for a favourite, the Drama Llamas.
The robes are ideal for a cold day after a run or a swim. They make great camping jackets, too, or for dog walks on a winter’s day.
The outer fabric is waterproof (in light to moderate rain or for a heavy but brief downpour). Inside is a thick lining of cosy sherpa fleece.
The robe has a hood and it’s over-sized so you can get changed underneath if, for example, you’ve been for a swim.
Other features include:
- Two-way front zip that can be zipped from the top and the bottom
- Waterproof zipped inner pocket with head phone slits
- Large open inner pocket to access essentials quickly and easily
- Two large zipped outer pockets
- Zipped cuffs if you want to open them ups
- Velcro cuffs if you want them tight
- Sizes: XS to XXL.
My thoughts: Flanci Huggle Robe
The robe is really practical. It’s a great jacket for throwing over the top of your clothes if you are heading outside for a short walk, such as a local dog walk, or if you are camping. I have used mine for an evening garden barbecue, too.
It’s also a really handy garment for changing underneath after a swim or a run. As soon as I put on the robe I start to feel warm, even when it’s very cold.
It is large sized so you can get changed underneath. I am a UK10 and I have the size “S”, which is nicely large!
I would quite like the arms to be a bit longer so they keep my hands warmer but I have long arms so I expect the length is fine for most people.
The hem length is excellent and the hood is great. Note, there are longer hem lengths available if you would like it made 10cm, 15cm or 20cm longer.
The two-way front zip is a great feature and I like the thoughtful zipped cuffs at the arms. I have found the press-stud buttons to be a bit tricky to clip together and one or two are harder to close but I wonder if they will get easier with use.
The fleece inner feels warm and cosy and the outer waterproof fabric appears to be durable and good quality. It’s waterproof enough for most situations although it will start to let in water if you’re outside for hours in heavy rain. Given that it’s a jacket you will wear post-exercise or for a shorter walk – you won’t be heading to the mountains in it – the waterproof rating is more than adequate, in my opinion.
There are two excellent internal pockets. One is made of fleece and open-topped, while the other is zipped and made with the same outer waterproof fabric.
This is a fairly heavy garment and also bulky. You’ll need a large rucksack if you plan to carry it to your swim location, for example. But this is the same for most dry robes.
I did catch my cold hands on the big plastic zips of the pockets and my skin didn’t like this. I get very cold hands and they can feel really tender so I need to make sure I avoid the pocket zips. A positive point about the chunky two-way front zip is it’s easy to do up when you have cold hands. I have Raynaud’s and I can’t cope with small details when my hands are cold so I appreciate the larger zips. It reminds me a bit of “plastic Meccano for small hands” from my childhood.
Above all, I really love the striking design and whenever I have worn the Flanci Huggle Robe people have made positive comments.
The price seems very reasonable, too, at just under £120. Remember you can use my FIONA10 10% discount code.
