A surprisingly warm day in March and a short stint of dog-sitting awesome Ace offered the opportunity for a walk of a Fiona hill at Cannich with my friend Victoria and her dog Darcy.
While the return route totals less than 9km and the elevation gain was just over 600m, the walk was testing at times.
The first section followed a fairly obvious trod uphill over moorland and on the edge of woodland. We then followed alongside a burn, with the trod coming and going as we headed through increasingly long vegetation.

In summer, this area would be much thicker in heather but even at the start of spring, the ground vegetation was thick.
After a kilometre or so, we tracked east and continued to climb although on a less steep gradient. The trods came and went but navigation was fairly straightforward. In poor weather, it would be more of a challenge to see the right route.
We reached a prominent cairn at around 550m height, before skirting along the south side of a lochan and then further uphill to gain the summit of Carn Gorm at 677m.

We returned by a similar route after an enjoyable few hours of walking.
This is a great short hike with some superb views if you have a half day to spare.
