A Women’s Winter Festival takes place in March 20201 and will be jointly delivered by Girls on Hills and Abacus Mountain Guides.

Women’s trail running company Girls on Hills and Abacus Mountain Guides have partnered to run a series of workshops, from March 12 to 14, focused on the winter mountains in Scotland.

The event is designed to empower women with the skills and knowledge necessary to enjoy mountain sports year-round.

The festival includes skills days and workshops, such as:

  • Winter Trail Running and Navigation.
  • Descending & Running with Poles.
  • Winter Walking, Climbing and Ski-touring.

There will be an evening programme of inspirational speakers and winter safety tutorials.

Sally Hudson, of Abacus Mountains Guides, said: “In the first instance, the festival is a celebration of Scottish winter.

“Whether someone is new to snowy mountains or an experienced winter climber looking to perfect their technique, the Women’s Winter Festival has something for women at all levels.”

Keri Wallace, of Girls on Hills, added. “We hope lots of women will join us for a weekend of new experiences, new skills and a chance to push themselves physically and mentally, but in a safe and supportive environment.”

The festival will take place the same week as International Women’s Day (March 8th) and is a way to celebrating female achievement, as well as improving accessibility for women in winter mountain sports.
