A cash bonus is being offered to anyone who sets a new course record in the iconic long-distance Scottish running event, the West Highland Way Race.
There is £1500 up for grabs for a new fastest male or female time in the 95-mile trail race on Saturday June 20, 2026.
Entries have opened with a deadline of November 30, 2025. Runners should note that they must be able to prove they have completed a trail ultra of 65k or more since January 1, 2023.
In addition, the race operates a ballot system rather than a first-come-first-served basis for places if more than the race entry limit is reached.
Entry is limited to 300 runners, with the relatively small size of the field helping to preserve the friendly nature of the event.
The race, on Scotland’s historic long-distance hiking route, is one of the world’s longest established ultra-marathons. It first took place in 1985, between Milngavie, just north of Glasgow, and Fort William, in the Highlands.
While most outdoor enthusiasts walk the West Highland Way over four to seven days, runners in the annual race a deadline of 35 hours to complete the trail.
£1500 for a new WHW Race course record
