Video guide: Mountain bike and hike to the Auld Wives Lifts

The Auld Wives Lifts, near Torrance, East Dunbartonshire, is a fascinating heritage site. Three stones, a larger one sitting on two stones, are thought to have been deposited on Craigmaddie Muir as part of glaciation millions of years ago.

The stones became a sacred place and have many engravings and inscriptions dating back hundreds of years. They are also the focus of legend and folklore, which are explored in this video guide.

Hubby G and I visited the Auld Wives Lifts as part of a mountain biking circuit via the West Highland Way, Strathkelvin Railway Path, Lennox Forest and then back to Bearsden by road.

See my OS Maps route.
