Pros: What’s good about Rudy Project Rebel Carbon Helmet

Safety: It should go without saying that safety is a top tier consideration for a helmet. The Rebel passed the CPSC 12.03 Safety Certification, as well as receiving 5 stars on an independent test conducted by Virgina Tech research lab. The carbon fibre panels provide the structure necessary or safety, while also reducing weight.

Another safety feature is the RSR Micro 11 retention system. Because of better construction it provides a lighter alternative to other helmets, yet one which creates more security.

Weight: New advancements with the carbon fibre panels provide more options for safety while keeping the weight low. This in turn gives more space for air ventilation, lowering the weight even more. It was easy for me to forget about my helmet and focus on the trail in front of me.

Ease: I really liked the magnetic lock. It is both easier and faster than a traditional snap buckle. Also, I think part of it goes back to the trauma as a kid when my neck skin got caught in the buckle (still need therapy for those memories). Rudy Project’s Fid Lock magnetic attachment system is quick, easy, and painless.

Fit: This helmet is extremely easy to adjust. The RSR Micro 11 retention system is able to adjust vertically and horizontally with the one dial. This is an advancement over the former RSR10 in multiple ways. It is 10 mm deeper, larger dial size, and automatic cradle height adjustment all the while being 10 grams lighter.

The strap dividers under the ears automatically adjust so you don’t have to fiddle around with those mid ride.

Comfort: The increased airflow is great. They were able to fit 22 vents in this helmet, and that is saying something. They also include a bug screen to keep uninvited guests of your head. Combine this with the weight and fit, the Rebel truly is great to wear.

Sustainability: Rudy Project aim to reduce the environmental impact of their products. The Rebel’s shell is made from recycled polycarbonate. The straps and padding are also recycled. However, I think one of the greatest things we can do in encouraging sustainability is to purchase thoughtfully. Purchasing a product that will last beats purchasing a cheap alternative every time.

Cons: What’s not so good about Rudy Project Rebel Carbon Helmet

This all depends on what you are looking for. Are you looking for an aero style helmet? This is not it.

Are you looking for something lighter? You can find that in a handful of other options.

Are you looking for something cheaper? There are lots of cheap helmets out there.

Some have noted that the straps are slippery and loosen over rides and require re-tightening. I have not had that problem, but in my research and testing I have read of others that have.

Conclusion:

I really enjoy this helmet. Rudy Project has done a great job creating a safe helmet that is comfortable to wear and easy to adjust. If the price point works for you, I don’t think you will be disappointed.
