The Decathlon Wedze ski bag is designed to hold two pairs of skis or two snowboards. I have owned a previous model and now the latest carry bag with wheels. The updates to the previous model include an adjustable roll-top end and an extra pocket. Here is my review of the Decathlon Wedze ski bag for two pairs of skis.

Features include:

Small: 100l

Large: 170l

Length: 210cm, 34cm, 15cm height for small; 24cm height for large

Two wheels

Large and wide suitcase-style zip (two-way)

Carry handles

Roll-top

Padded areas for impact protection

One main compartment

Large pocket with interior zip, smaller inside pocket

Small £89.99, large; £129.99

My thoughts: Decathlon Wedze ski bag for 2 pairs of skis or 2 snowboards

I was sent the small bag to test and it’s perfectly sized for two sets of skis. If you want to take four pairs, you’ll need the larger bag. The issue with taking four sets of skis or two sets of skis and lots of extra kit is that you will end up with a ski bag that is overly heavy and that means paying extra when booking flights. A heavy ski bag is also difficult to move about, even with wheels.

So, I’m happy with my choice of the smaller ski bag. As well as two sets of skis, it’s possible to add two pairs of ski boots, plus a few lighter weight items such as ski jacket and bib pants.

The ski bag has a fairly soft outer with a frame at the rear to provide some rigidity. More rigidity comes from the skis themselves. It all adds up to a long, narrow suitcase that can be wheeled.

Wheeling is fairly good although at times the lower end of the ski bag drags along the ground. It’s a much better experience when the ground is smooth, rather than lumpy and bumpy.

I am not entirely convinced by the need for the roll top. The previous ski bag was a set length with a zip and I think I prefer this. However, the roll top does offer an element of flexibility depending on the length of your skis. It’s worth checking what the maximum length is for ski bag carriage with various airlines as this could be a limitation. The roll-top does give a neat end to the bag if rolled properly.

The bag has some padded areas to offer protection but you should note that this is a soft bag and not a hard case so it’s worth packing some softer items, such as clothing, around the more fragile parts of the skis, such as the bindings.

There are a couple of large, strong handles should you need to carry the ski bag, for example to lift it on to the conveyor belt at the airport or when going up or down stairs.

When travelling on my own with one set of skis, ski boots and other kit packed inside the ski bag, I was able to carry the bag with one of the handles for a short time. The wheels are essential when the bag is fully packed.

The two-way zip allows you to open to bag on three sides – the two short ends and one long side. The zip pulls are large and easy to use and the zip is fairly smooth.

I made use of the pockets for extra bits and pieces, such as spare shoes, ski socks, baselayers, adaptor plugs etc. The larger pocket is zipped on the outside, while a smaller zipped pocket is on the inside. I would prefer that both pockets were zipped from the inside. Having a zipped pocket on the outside makes me worry that strangers have easier access to whatever is in that pocket. If a thief wanted to target the bag it is much easier to open that zip on the outside of the bag, rather than inside.

Overall, for the price, it’s a decent ski bag. The last one lasted more than a decade. It started to deteriorate on the inside and then the wheels began to fail.
