Set your budget. While outdoor trips tend to be a little cheaper than hotel stays abroad, you still need to make sure that you have a budget in place ahead of time. Remember, there are plenty of ways in which you can save money while travelling, such as by preparing your own food as opposed to dining out, or booking accommodation as far in advance as possible. You should also use price comparison sites when booking everything from transport to accommodation.

Choose the right location. While you have endless options to choose from, you should make sure that you choose the right location for your trip. This is determined not only by your budget but also by the kind of activities you’d like to participate in. For example, if you want to swim or participate in water-based activities, then you should be sure to visit the  UK Coast. If you’re more interested in hiking and mountaineering, then you should visit the Peak District.

Think about the weather. Travelling in the UK often means that you need to be prepared for bad weather (even during the summer months). However, you can make your trip as enjoyable as possible by ensuring that you time your trip correctly. For example, Autumn is often the best time for a UK-based hiking adventure, as it’s relatively dry, but not as hot as the summer months.

You should also make sure that you pack accordingly. For example, while this sun may be shining, it’s always worth having a lightweight waterproof in your bag in case of sudden or unexpected showers.

Know your limits. While adventure-based travel is on the rise, you must know your limits. This can avoid landing yourself in a difficult situation further down the line, such as getting injured during a difficult hike. For example, while you may be keen to tackle the highest mountains or the most complicated route from A to B, you should not do so unless you have the necessary experience to pull it off without a hitch.

If you’re going to be challenging yourself, try to increase the amount of exercise you do in the weeks leading up to your trip. This way, you’re better prepared for what lies ahead and are less likely to deal with exhaustion or burnout.

Final thoughts. The UK is the perfect destination for those looking to satisfy both their wanderlust and adventurous spirit, due to the fact that it is an area of great natural beauty. You can plan the perfect adventure by:

  • Setting a budget.
  • Choosing the right location.
  • Timing your trip for the best weather conditions.
  • Knowing your limits when it comes to exercise.
